THE CAR VENGEANCE LIVES ON!
THE CAR: VENGEANCE LIVES ON!
When the members, of shop class, were sent to the junkyard, to look for a car, to re-build, from the ground, up, no one had any idea what they would be in for.
After all, the frame, body, and passenger compartment, were in pretty good shape. The only part that needed much work was the engine.
When made the workers complain was the fact that, when they went to pull the engine, it seems that the drive shaft was jammed, so tightly, into both the transmission, and the axel, that the axel had to be removed, with a torch, and plenty of lubricant.
The shaft then had to be power-wrenched from the transmission, as if the two had been welded together.
Even with the crunched hood removed, it would take a full two weeks just to separate the transmission from the engine.
The amount of work, involved, lead some to wonder HOW the car had gotten into this condition.
There were plenty of laughs about the story of a possessed car, which had killed a driver.
Most people, including the shop-teacher, said that the rumor had been started by some people who watched Stephen King’s movie: Christine. The movie about a supposedly “haunted” car, which took possession of a young man, to wreak vengeance on people who had hurt someone.
The shop teacher told anyone, who believed that a car could be haunted, to visit the Drama club. Shop class was about building the skills needed for people to become automotive mechanics.
Over the following months, when the students worked on the car, some said they felt like the car was “watching” them. Others just laughed this off.
The reason why the police did not take the three reports seriously was because the details were too much like the plot-line of a recently released car movie.
This one, being about a man, who had drive while drunk, and some teens, who had, in a roundabout way, caused the mans death.
The plot, of the movie was that, once the mans body was buried, his soul came back, and used his car to hunt down those he held responsible for his death.
This is why, when three complaints came in, saying that a car was roaming the streets, and following people, the police ignored the calls.
That is, until a local post-man was killed, by a car.
While a follow-up investigation, lead to the auto shop, the police were baffled when they found the car, with its engine on a hoist.
When the police asked “How long has that engine been up there?” The shop teacher would say “About ten days. We are having trouble removing parts, to be replaced.”
When the police asked “There is no way that the car left the garage, last night, then returned this morning?” The shop teacher laughed, saying “The only way it could leave was without its engine. Cars can not run without engines.”
The car was taken OFF the list of suspects. After all, no car can run without an engine.
When there were more sightings, of A car, the high school agreed to allow the police to lock the garage, after class. Not that this was needed as the car had no gas.
The time, when things got really “spooky” was when the car was ready for testing.
One evening, after shop class, the class watched as police locked up the car, for the night.
Early, the next morning, the teacher, students, and police were at the shop class. This because a woman had been run over, and the offending vehicle was reported as being the shop car.
Everyone agreed that this was impossible since the car had no gas, as of yet.
This is why everyone, present, asked the same question: WHERE was the car?
Police spent most of the morning checking for theft, then questioning both the teacher, and the students.
Two days, of searching, later, and, when a local judge was found, run over, the search turned to the junkyard, which had sold the wreck in the first place.
The yard owner verified that the car had come from the police impound yard, after the driver had died in a one car crash.
When files were checked, it was found that the car had been involved in the un-verified sexual assault, of a young woman. The victims had died, and could not testify. The attackers family had PAID for a Not Guilty verdict. They KNEW what happens to rapists, in prison.
The man had walked free, for two weeks, then met his end, reportedly after having too much to drink, and swerving the road.
Witnesses said that the man MUST have been drunk, by the way he was driving.
While this explained the damage to the car, it did nothing to explain the recent deaths.
It would take a newspaper reporter to “put the facts together”.
The latest victim had been the foreman, on the jury, which acquitted the suspect. The judge had overseen the case. The postman had been a juror, as had a cashier, who had been run over, not long ago.
Now, while most of the deaths could be tied to the cars disappearance, two deaths could not, as the cars motor had been pulled.
The police checked with gas stations, about missing gas. All verified that none had gone missing.
It was when a police officer was run down, and police pursued the suspect, saying “I dont know what he’s running, but it is better than our gas.”
It was when the suspect outran the police, on an interstate, that headquarters called in the state police.
For twelve, full, hours, the interstate was cut off, with every vehicle being checked.
The car was nowhere to be found.
The only “link” was that the officer had been on the jury, which acquitted the young man.
By the time a judge entered an order, to take the remaining witnesses to “protective custody”, word had arrived that two other jurors had been run down.
Witnessess swore that the car had NO driver. It was like the car had a will of its own.
When the shop teacher was asked about “special extras”, the teacher would ask “How could we afford to do that? The school, barely, lets us buy junk. That extra stuff would cost thousands of dollars.”
When someone asked “Do you, really, expect us to believe that a ghost is doing this?” The teacher would say “**I** never said any such thing. All I know is that my class does not have the money, or parts, to do what you are suggesting.”
When the police asked “What about the thieves?” The teacher would suggest “Who knows?”
The only common denominator, in the case, was the man who had, supposedly, attacked, then killed a young woman. That, and a jury which did not convict.
A jury which was being “silenced”, one at a time.
It would not be until the last juror was dead that police surrounded the estate, of the accused family.
The car rammed the security gates as if the iron bars were made of paper.
The car stopped, directly in front of the family, and this is when the impossible happened.
The victim appearred, as though still alive, and stood before the couple. When the couple asked “You took all of those lives. What MORE do you want?”
The spirit seemed to emit the signal “Justice”, loud enough for all to hear.
When the father said “You have taken our son. What more do you want?” With this, the spirit smiled, then dissolved.
The car would be towed back to the school, where the teacher would re-check everything, then say “All appears to be well.”
The car would, then go to an auto show, where it would take second place, then be sold to another person.
No more problems would be reported.
No one wanted to file a report on a “haunted” or “possessed”, motor vehicle. The car was declared “stolen”, and then “recovered”.
